About

KENT STUMP (OWNER/CHIEF ENGINEER

Kent has over 23 years of experience as a recording, mixing and mastering engineer and has been an engineer with Crystal Clear Sound since 1997. He learned the tried and true, classic analog methods of recording, mic’ing and mixing, starting in the days when 2” analog tape was the standard recording medium. But he is also a master with Pro Tools and working in the digital world, and when it comes to drum sounds, there is no one better. Kent has been playing trombone and guitar professionally for 35 years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music, in Jazz Studies / Performance from the College of Music at the University of North Texas and in addition to his work in the studio has spent time as a touring musician including multiple international tours to Europe, Australia and New Zealand with his band Wo Fat, as well as playing in the orchestra for a touring Broadway show. In the studio he has worked with a wide range of artists and on many different projects - including Hank Thompson, Reverend Horton Heat, Yawning Balch, Janie Fricke, Forever the Sickest Kids, Green River Ordinance and co-engineered and mixed the Grammy nominated 2001 Brave Combo album, "Kick Ass Polkas." He also contributed engineering for parts of songs by Julian Lennon, Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor. The rich musical background that Kent brings to his approach to engineering gives him a skill set that many engineers lack. He can speak the language of musicians and understand charts, scores and terminology, which makes sessions flow smoothly and easily. This also means he brings that musician’s ear to the sonic aspects of recording and mixing, focusing on the music over the purely technical, giving your music the most musical and dynamic mixes and masters.
